Military Relocation

Relocating as an active-duty military member often involves additional considerations and support structures. While some aspects of relocation may be similar to those outlined previously, there are unique factors specific to military relocation:

1. PCS (Permanent Change of Station) Orders:

• Military personnel receive PCS orders directing them to move to a new duty station. These orders dictate the timing and location of the move.

2. Military Housing:

• Military members may have the option to live on-base in military housing or off-base with a Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) to cover housing costs.

5. Healthcare:

• TRICARE, the military healthcare program, ensures continuity of healthcare coverage for military members and their families during relocation.

6. Schools and Childcare:

• Military installations often have on-base schools and childcare facilities, but families may also need to navigate enrolling children in off-base schools during relocation.

7. Deployment Considerations:

• Relocation for military members may involve considerations related to deployment cycles, including timing the move around deployment schedules or preparing for potential deployments shortly after relocation.

8. Legal and Financial Considerations:

• Military Legal Assistance Offices can provide guidance on legal matters related to relocation, such as lease agreements, powers of attorney, and financial planning.
• Financial counseling services are available to assist with budgeting, managing finances, and understanding entitlements and allowances associated with relocation.
